"Germany. Met an accident in the air. Special via Galvaston. Berlin, Aug. 12. -- Herr Lilienthal, an engineer who has spent many years experimenting on the building of flying machines, met with an accident yesterday with resulted in his death. He started the machinery from the hilltop of Rhinow and the apparatus worked all right for a few minutes and Lilienthal flew a considerable distance. Suddenly the machinery got out of order and the man and machine fell to the gorund. Lilienthal was badly injured and was carried to the hospital where he died."
